The Aviemore and Glenmore Community Trust is being formed for the purpose of acquiring the Cairngorm Estate to further sustainable development for the community. Forming the trust is a first step. The Trust will be formed as a company limited by guarantee. It will be open for all eligible voters within the PH22 postcode to join. The Scottish Government’s Community Land Team have provided advice and assistance to ensure that the company documents meet the eligibility requirements to register and interest under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. Once the membership has reached the necessary level, the Trust will apply to register an interest in the Cairngorm Estate. An application to register an interest will not be granted automatically. It can be refused by the Scottish Ministers. If the interest is registered, a sale under the 2003 Act could only take place if HIE are willing to sell. Significant changes are being made to the legislation for community ownership and empowerment. The Trust will monitor all options which become available to further it’s purposes.
